Let us count the fun things to do in the Highland Lakes. One is — wait, before we go any further, they are already listed in the latest edition of 101 Fun Things to do in the Highland Lakes.
The fall/winter 2017 edition hit the stands Oct. 7.
You can pick up a free copy of the magazine at businesses, restaurants, hotels, and motels across the Highland Lakes as well as at the Victory Publishing office, 1007 Ave. K. Or, if you prefer to do your reading digitally, you can browse the magazine online at https://www.101highlandlakes.com.
In the latest edition, Jared Fields takes you on a road trip to several of the favorite Highland Lakes dance halls. You’ll discover a reason to go out on Friday or Saturday night (or any night).
And if you’re a beer aficionado, check out Suzanne Freeman’s feature on local craft beers.
While the Highland Lakes boasts several award-winning wineries, it also has some great little breweries, and you can often meet the folks making these tasty beers.
There are a lot of things that make the Highland Lakes special, and writer JoAnna Kopp introduces you to the region’s oldest feature. And no, we’re not talking about The Picayune editor Daniel Clifton, though he’s getting up there in age.
We’re referring to Highland Lakes geology, which goes back about 1.4 billion (yes, billion with a “b”). JoAnna will give you a quick lesson in the Precambrian rock of the Llano Uplift.
You should ponder that over a glass of beer.
Speaking of Daniel Clifton, we think it takes an antique to write about antiques. So flip open the magazine to read his story on antiquing in the Highland Lakes and all the treasures you can find. Though we describe him as an antique, Daniel prefers to think of himself as vintage, or maybe a classic.
But definitely not Precambrian.
In between those stories, you can dig into a whole lot of things to do in the Highland Lakes. We start you off in early October and take you through the Christmas season. Be sure to check out every Christmas lights display from the Walkway of Lights in Marble Falls to Starry, Starry Nights in Llano. We have some of the more popular events (Main Street Bethlehem) and not so well-known (Llano River Pumpkin Float).
So what are you waiting for? Grab a copy and make a checklist for the things you want to do in the Highland Lakes.
